Interview Q&A
What is your primary product or service?
We specialize primarily in small group and individual life, health and non traditional insurance coverages. We are affliated with a number of top rated insurance carriers. That way we can offer our clients the best possible solution to their particular problem. We'll find the program that fits their needs and their budget.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
I saw a lack of service in certain sectors of our local business community. I personally knew so many individuals who had no insurance coverage whatsoever. It's not that they didn't want coverage, they simply didn't know how to go about aquiring the service. Insurance companies traditionally look to the larger corporations to provide health insurance with the best rates. At L.T.D. we use those same insurance company programs pared down to fit the needs of smaller businesses and individuals. The rates are of course different because their aren't as many people in the group, but the options are mostly the same.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
We practice a different sales mindset here at L.T.D. The sale is not our highest priority. We have two goals in mind when we deal with a client. The first and most important is to develop a relationship with a potential client. A real relationship grounded in mutual respect and trust. There is no manipulation, or maneuvering in our sales process in order to move the client along to the close. We want to know who you really are and what you truly have need of. We have a lot of options for people, but we may not always have a product that fits a client's particular needs, but we'll never know if that's the case if we never get to the truth. And that brings us to the second part of our business mindset. The truth, it's absolutely necessary to create trust in order to get to the client's truth. Without that relationship as a foundation, we'll never really come to understand what the client needs and then the whole process breaks down. Instead of becoming partners in the solution, we become adversaries on opposite sides of the problem. Without the truth, we can see only one side of the equation, ours. Then we're only in a position to help ourselves, not help our client really solve their problem. We're in business to serve the segment of our society that has been widely overlooked by large insurance companies. We want them to know that fulfilling their needs and solving their problems are our highest priorities, not making the sale. Sometimes those things aren't compatible. If we don't have what someone needs, we'll try to find someone that does, at no charge.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
Right now we have one location. While I do intend to expand, I don't forsee opening any hard offices, so to speak. When clients call we make appointments to see them either at their residence for individuals or at their place of business. There is really no need for us to have a central location to do business at this stage in our development. And without the monthly expense of overhead costs to deal with, like office space and utilities , we're not pressured to run through as many clients as fast as possible to make that expense cost effective. This fits perfectly with our core values and how we want our operation to function.
What type of payments do you accept?
We accept VISA, MASTERCARD, DISCOVER, personal checks and money orders. We don't normally accept cash because we're reimbursed by the insurance companies themselves for our services. Therefore all funds paid by the client go directly to the actual company providing the coverage. And they don't take cash payments.
Which areas do you service?
We serve the northern Will County area and southern Cook County. We have accounts as far north as 78th & Halsted in Chicago. And as far to the south as Kankakee.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
Donald R. Banks is the owner and handles daily operations.
What are your hours of operation?
Monday thru Friday 8:30am-6pm
Saturday 8:30am-5pm
Closed Sunday
